Neighborhood Walks are a staple of most marching bands. The Green Mountain community is a big part of who we are and our neighbors have been very generous to us. At a neighborhood walk, students walk in groups of 2 or 3, door-to-door, in their casual uniform, and tell homeowners about our program, collecting donations. Parent drivers transport and supervise groups of walkers.
Neighborhood walks are an important fundraiser for the Marching Rams. Organizers are careful to catch each part of our articulation area only once each year. Homeowners look forward to seeing students come by and hearing about the show plans for the current year.
Neighborhood walks are also a big team-building event. Students sometimes walk by sections, new students are mixed in with returning students, and groups compete to bring in the most money for their band. The GMHS Band Boosters provide snacks for walkers at the conclusion of the walks. Students carry instruments and perform at the door, on occasion.
These events require the participation of as many Marching Rams students and parent drivers as possible to be successful. Watch the calendar for dates.
